Beta Bodega Coalition member, Romulo Del Castillo/Takeshi Muto aka Patcha Kutek - one half of Phoenecia (Schematic/Detroit Underground/Warp Records). In 2001 releasing "Lomito Saltado" on Beta Bodega and ode to his Peruvian heritage. A collection of sonic skirmishes from the corridors of Lima and Cusco to the bodegas on West Flagler Street. This CD dropped in November of 2001 and was manufactured locally at the legendary Miami Tapes. Only available on the compact disc was a bonus track by Tatiana Harrison "A Special Broadcast Live From Peru".

The 1980s is often referred as "The Lost Decade" in Peru, as the result of its social-political and economic crises. As a result of the crisis, large waves of Peruvians immigrated to countries such as the United States, Spain, Italy, Chile, Venezuela and Argentina. Japanese-Peruvian Alberto Fujimori had won the 1990 presidential election. A report conducted by the U.S. State Department showed that the Peruvian police had tortured and mistreated more than 800 students who were detained. Amnesty International also paid attention to a massacre of 150 prisoners, and if a prisoner survived, they were ultimately still tortured. In this incident alone, it has been reported that 611 individuals died under the Peruvian police control and the Fujimori government. Most notable was the Barrios Altos massacre committed by the Grupo Colina military death squads. Fujimori ended his presidency by fleeing Peru for Japan amid a major scandal involving corruption and human rights abuses Fujimori was specifically found guilty of murder, bodily harm, and two cases of kidnapping. In July 2009 Fujimori was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for embezzlement after he admitted to giving $15 million from the Peruvian treasury to his intelligence service chief, Vladimiro Montesinos.
